What Is Ring Resizing
Ring resizing refers to a process that allows you to customise your rings’ sizes so that they fit your fingers perfectly.
However, things aren’t that simple. Not all rings can be resized, and resizing a ring could damage or weaken its setting.
In addition, if your ring is made of a brittle material like platinum, the resizing process can become more complex.
If your ring is too small for you, your jeweller will cut the band and spread it as much as possible before adding a new piece of metal to fill the gap. To shorten a band, the jeweller will simply cut a small strip off before soldering the band back together in the spot where they cut it.
Why Might I Need To Resize A Ring?
There are many reasons why you might need to consider getting a ring resized. Maybe you received it as a gift or inherited it as an heirloom, and it does not fit correctly. Perhaps you bought it online or overseas and didn’t get a chance to try it on before buying.
If you’ve gained or lost weight or your knuckles have swelled with age, old rings might also have stopped fitting as they once did.

What Rings Can’t Be Resized?
There are situations in which resizing a ring is simply impossible. If you have a ring that doesn’t fit and isn’t suitable for resizing, one option would be to ask your jeweller whether it can be melted down and crafted into a new piece of custom jewellery.
Rings made from titanium, tungsten or stainless steel can’t be resized due to the properties of the metal.
How Should My Ring Fit?
Engagement rings and wedding bands should fit snugly yet comfortably. Your rings should slide on easily and need a slight pull to get them off.
If a ring is uncomfortably tight, that’s a sign that it is too small. If it slips off with no resistance, that suggests that it is too large and needs resizing.
